Artist Profile
My practice is textile based, working with embroidery, quilting, appliqué, print, stitch, dye work etc. I seek to find beauty in urban spaces and revitalise and subvert traditional skills.
Inspired by Richard Sennett's book, The Craftsman , I began to explore the process of making, craft skills (and their lack) and the time spent engaging in creative labour. Recently I've become more and more obsessed with the passing of time – the artworks I have produced involved an enormous amount of skilled labour, (much of which I can't help feeling goes unnoticed!)
For me the production of beautiful objects that take time and craftsmanship is of the greatest importance – and is possibly one of the most subversive things I could be doing in the current cultural climate.
